1) We don’t need more building in a flood plain.
2) We have enough strip malls in Chesterfield’s flood plain.
3) Destruction of this wildlife habitat is unconscionable
4) Traffic congestion on Dorsett and I-364 will suck.
5) Rowers and sailors in lake area deserve better.
6) Hikers and bikers in lake area deserve better.
7) Build more park trails, not more mall pavement.
8) Save the last 5 percent of Missouri’s wetlands.
9) Keep Westport Plaza going; leave this area alone.
10) Nature spots are necessary for human sanity.
Don, as usual, you have hit the nail on the head. Thanks for staying on top of this awful development. Like one commenter said (in a different article), “Who wants to sit in the park having a picnic, and face Wal-Mart?”
Don,
I’m an artist now living in Chicago who grew up in Creve Coeur back in the day when Page Ave. was a dead end into Bennington Place. I return often though to photograph as I enjoy and use landscape for my art. I can’t express how deeply I feel that this land should stay off limits to developers not only for the fact that it is a flood plain and a fragile wetland but also because of its historical and aesthetic value to the community. I would like to donate my effort and art in anyway possible for the cause to protect the land. I hope my photos don’t become relics of what once was…

Living in the vacinity, I have some observations to share….
with the development of our area (Danforth center and other residential developments being a couple I SEE right off), I have noticed we have lots of ‘missing pet’ signs around the area over the last few years.
There have been possums, fox, and red tail hawks seen in the residential area that may explain some pet loses.
I think this would be a small indication of what the impact will be of development of a long time ‘nature spot’ will bring about.
Has anyone pointed out how many businesses have closed in the last years in the vacinity of Maryland Heights, Creve Coeur, and possibly parts of Chesterfield? (if I remember correctly some of these may be Old Navy, Breve Expresso Cafe, Kruegers, Organized Living, Carrabarra’s Italian Restaurant, Dress Barn, Lone Star, Ruby Tuesday, Auto Zone.)
Even the Border Books, hardware, and grocery stores within this development vacinity cut back operating hours. Not to mention the vacancies of the Dierberg’s Heritage plaza and the Schnucks Bellerive plaza, Schnucks Dorsett/McKelvey, the Page outer road.
Why not have incentives to re-populate these existing plaza’s? There is a slow filling or rebuilding some of the vacant buildings in the West Port industrial area? Why not more incentives to repopulate that area? For a while, West Port area was looking like a ghost town.
Sure this new development may complete the residential development on the same street but what ever happened to all those ‘failing’ home loans. Appears there is just not enough people, and income to keep all these places going.
Can I be acquired to add into part of the park grounds?
I’ve noticed this past planting season there was corn on this property. Does anyone know what happened to the Corn Shortage? Would be interesting if it was used as supplier to the new Ethanol plant being built in IL.
Can we find a way to recycle the vacant buildings we already have?
Please pardon my spelling and sentence errors in the above posting.
especially “Can I be acquired to add into part of the park grounds?” LOL
Although living in the park would be interesting, it’s not really my desire!
My real question is “Can this property be acquired to add to the existing Creve Coeur Lake property?”
I personally will miss this scenic road and I think any park visitors would also.
Thank you for allowing me to post to your Blog!
