Power Shift Conference Event in Washington, D.C. – February 27, 2009

Power Shift takes place Feb 27-Mar 2, 2009 and is a unique opportunity for student leaders of all backgrounds (environmental studies, politics, engineering, social justice) to come together, discuss the national energy and climate crises with national figures and lobby Green Changes to our elected officials. www.powershift09.org contains more information on what this weekend means to youth leaders across the United States.

Green Action at Washington University  – February 27, 2009

Green Action, a student group at Wash U, participates in Power Shift for renewable energy to change the world. Green Action is making the pilgrimage to Washington again this spring to attend the Feb. 27 Power Shift 2009, and will partner with other schools in St. Louis for the trip. Interested students should email Wash U’s – green@sugroups.wustl.edu to coordinate hiring a charter bus for the weekend and to work out logistics.

Global Sustainability Author to Speak in St. Louis – April 21, 2009

David Sobel, author and educator of Place-Based Education, is coming to St. Louis and Webster University in April. He will give a workshop for educators and a keynote on April 18th, and then will work with area schools on the 21st, the Missouri Botanical Gardens and St. Louis Zoo on the 22nd. Plans are for a Brown Bag Lecture at Webster at noon on the 22nd. For more information, contact Lori Diefenbacher at: diefenlo@webster.edu

The Global Garden – June 18, 2009

“The Global Garden” speaker series presents Dr. David Wolfe, professor of plant ecology at Cornell University. Wolfe is a leading authority on the effects of climate change and rising carbon dioxide on plants, soils and ecosystems. He has studied how the disruption of species interactions could impair the functioning ecosystems that provide the planet with clean water, food and other human needs. “The Global Garden” series reflects the Missouri Botanical Garden’s core mission to help people throughout the world conserve and manage the earth’s resources and ecosystems. 2 and 7 p.m. Shoenberg Theater. $10 afternoon session; $15 evening session; discounts for Garden members.
